Our natural area
The area of Preveli is located about 40 km south of Rethymnon and 12 km east of Plakias. The beach of Preveli is also known as the lake of Finikas due to the special natural beauty of the wider area.
In the sea area you will find the exit of the Mega river that carries the crystal clear waters of the imposing Kourtallio gorge and the Fratanos Gorge.
Our beach is one of the most famous in southern Crete and receives thousands of visitors but also fans of the seabed and the coastal sea area and who explore it with their equipment.
It used to be a unique destination for the Hippies, who met by the thousands on the beach and in nature.
Of course, the interest for our region is not accidental, since on the banks of the Mega river one of the rare palm groves of Greece and Crete thrives, hosting the well-known Cretan palm tree of Theophrastus.
The estuary of the river looks like a lake and you have the opportunity to walk along the river inland and at the same time to feel the coolness from the shade of the palm trees but also of the other edible nature. In the beautiful course of your tour you will discover the "Swims", ie basins with deep cool fresh water where you will be able to enjoy endless moments with your friends.
The sandy beach with the presence of pebbles at the exit of the river expands to the entire extent of the sea horizon and at the same time the deeper the water becomes the more pebbles you meet! In the eastern part of the beach there is a combination of impressive rows of rocks, sometimes reminiscent of a female face and sometimes a female heart! This combination is called "O Glymenos Volakas".
Finally, throughout the sea area you can explore a plethora of sea caves, which were probably also natural protective places, as it sounds to the pirates of the Middle Ages.
We wish you good tours and dives!
